What Do YOU Think?

I am reading a book with my daughter called The Janitor's Boy by Andrew Clements. In the story, the main character is really embarrassed that his father is the school janitor. He sets out to "get back" at his father. For some reason, he thinks it's his father's fault that the kids are picking on him. As a parent, I feel sorry for the dad, and I think what the son is doing is wrong.

Making judgments is something we can't help but do when we read. We think about the story and think about what we would do in that same situation. What are you reading? What kinds of decisions are the characters making? Are they good ones? Why do you think so?

THE GREAT GRACIE CHASE STOP THAT DOG!
BY: CYNTHIA RYLANT AND MARK TEAGUE

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THE CHARACTER? WHY?

I WOULD TELL GRACIE THAT SHE SHOULD NOT GO OUT ON THE STREET SHE MIGHT GET RUN OVER AND EVERYONE WAS WORRIED ABOUT HER RUNNING AWAY. SOMEONE COULD HAVE TAKEN HER. ALL SHE WANTED WAS PEACE AND QUITE.

    KISS THE COW
PHYLLIS ROOT ILLUSTARATED BY WILL HILLENBRAND

What advice would you give the character? Why?

I think that the advice that I will give Annalisa is that when you want to see what it feel's like to kiss a cow is don't do it because the cow mite have a flie or the cows lips mite be slobery. Because I would not like to kiss a cow because that is really gross and I mite get sick from the cow.

    ARTHUR'S TEACHER TROUBLE
    MARC BROWN

WHAT LESSON DOES ONE OR MORE OF THE CHARACTERS LEARN THAT WILL HELP IMPROVE THEIR LIVES?

ARTHUR LEARNS THAT WHEN YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING GOOD YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD FOR IT. WHEN ARTHUR STUDIED VERY HARD HE WAS CHOOSEN TO BE IN THE SPELLATHON AND THEN WHEN HE STUDIED EVEN HARDER HE WON IT.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Does this book remind you of another book? How?

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything reminds me of The Berenstein Bears and The Auto Graveyard. I think they are alike because they are both really, really scary. One book had a scary pumpkin head chasing the Little Old Lady. The other book was about ghosts in a junkyard.

What gift would you like to give the main character?

i would like to give the main character a trophy. Ferdy was the one who discovered that the announcement from General George Grizzington was a fake. Sister and Brother helped in discovering this as well but it was ferdys good eye that noticed that the last three letters were written with another pen when the orginial was written with the quill pen. They worked together as a team to find out who has forged announcement it was fritz the forger and ralph ripoff.
